Cervical Smears
Patients may ask for cervical smears to be performed by any of the doctors or a specially trained Practice Nurse. Women between the age of 25 yrs and 50 yrs receive a recall for a cervical smear every 3 years and every 5 years from the age of 51 yrs to 64 yrs. Additional smears are taken if clinically necessary.

Child Health
We work closely with our Health Visitors. You will receive appointments for your child’s immunisations. Immunisations are given by the practice nurses with a doctor available during clinic times. If you cannot keep an appointment please contact the surgery to rearrange it so that your child does not miss this important protection. The Health Visitors run special health and advice clinics on a weekly basis. They can be contacted on: 01256 375470.
Red Cross
The local Red Cross centre is situated in the Gillies Health Centre, Basingstoke, and supplies appliances (eg: wheelchairs, commodes, walking aids, etc.) for short term loans on production of a note from your doctor). The Red Cross office is open Mondays and Thursdays from 10 am to 12 noon.
There is a close involvement with all other health workers and related services. Advice can be given on how and when to make appropriate contact.
Enhanced Services
- Anticoagulation service (Warfarin Monitoring Service)
- Phlebotomy (Blood Tests)
- Intra-uterine contraception and implants
- Childhood Immunisations
- Influenza immunisation

Flu Vacs
It is recommended that the elderly and patients with underlying conditions, such as asthma, bronchitis, heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease receive a yearly flu vaccination as these people are more likely to develop serious complications as a result of contracting flu. The vaccination is therefore not indicated for fit young people. ‘Flu clinics’ are held from mid October.
The same group of patients should also have Pneumovax – a vaccination to protect against a common cause of chest infection and pneumonia.
Please contact the surgery for details.
In Addition

- Registered patients aged over 75 years who have not been seen in the previous 12 months may request a consultation (If you are unable to attend the surgery for these checks because of your medical condition, please discuss this with your doctor).
